Scott Wenig on Church History and Theology

I had Dr. Wenig for the first time today.  As well as being one of the more intense teachers I have encountered in my student career, next to only Steve Sanchez, he is also one of the most astute and observant concerning the relationship between church history and theology.  Just listen to this taken directly from today's recorded class lecture,

"I’m of the opinion that it is very difficult to get a good grasp on theology without church history.  Theology does not arise in a vacuum.  Theology always develops out of Christians, real living Christians in real times and real places interacting with issues of life and God and Scripture and as a result they develop theology...I’m not convinced you can be a good theologian unless you have a pretty good feel for and grasp on church history because the church, which is a group of people, is the one that develops theology."

I'm so stoked for this class.

Appreciating your prayers friends,

R. D. Thompson

I'm praying for you, Thomson and Thompson. I'm really excited that you're so excited about where the Lord has you...your classes and all. Thanks so much for calling last night and telling me what I needed to hear. I really appreciated it.
